Relocate to Page County

TBD

Relocate to Luray-Page County

Page County is set against a backdrop of the beautiful Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains. Many who experience the beauty and charm of Page County find that they never want to leave. Page County is not only a great place to visit, but also a great place to live, to work, to start a business, and to find your community. The famous Shenandoah River runs through our landscape, and the Shenandoah National Park and Luray Caverns perfectly complement our sunrises and sunsets. You can only imagine the layers of rolling hills, rich farmland, charming towns, and riverfront access that Page County offers.

Our History

Page County was named for Governor John Page and was formed from parts of Shenandoah and Rockingham counties by an act of the Virginia General Assembly in 1831. Luray, the county seat, was founded in 1812. Shenandoah, the southernmost town, was established in 1884. Stanley, near the center of the county, was established in 1900.

Unspoiled Splendor

The beauty and serenity of Page County is something that residents and visitors cherish and that will endure forever. The county’s western edge is protected by the George Washington National Forest and to its east the Shenandoah National Park, Virginia’s only national park. There are no interstate highways anywhere within the county’s borders. Instead, we are surrounded by rural roads and scenic byways, allowing Page County’s river, farmlands, and mountain views to remain as unspoiled now as they were when the county was originally founded. Your commute will be quick, as Page County is only 40 miles North to South, with opportunities available inside and outside the county.

REQUEST RELOCATION INFORMATION

TOP 10 REASONS TO RELOCATE TO LURAY & PAGE COUNTY, VIRGINIA.

With wide open spaces and small-town charm, Page County offers plenty of reasons to make a move. Here’s some of our favorites.

  1. Family-Friendly Fun.
Just because you aren’t on vacation doesn’t mean you can’t choose to live a vacation way of life. In the Page County area, making each day count is easy as the area offers access to lots of restaurants, shops, and attractions. We have plenty of reasons to get out and explore or slow down and relax.

  2. Enjoy the beauty of each season.
Winters are cold, sure. But the snow is pretty and its rarely too much. Summers are hot – that’s why we have the Shenandoah River, Lake Arrowhead, Hawksbill Greenway and Hawksbill pool. But you can have hot or cold anywhere. When Page County really shines is our spring and fall. Once winter has made its exit, beautiful and vibrant colors explode from the ground and trees during Spring. Enjoy the fall when yellow and rusty colors cover the Blue Ridge Mountains, turning every hiking trip into a festival of natural marvelousness.

  3. You love the mountains.
We are nestled between the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains, so you can truly escape the hustle — and hassles — of everyday life. Shenandoah National Park consists of over 500 miles of trails for hikers of every experience level from beginner all the way up to the ambitious Appalachian Trail hiker. With 196,000 acres of protected wilderness filled with deer, bears, and a variety of birds, the Skyline Drive – a National Scenic Byway – provides a stunning view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah Valley, and beyond.

  4. Southern hospitality.
There’s a reason that millions of visitors flock to Page County each year, and it’s more than the mountains; It’s our warm and friendly locals. The people are what make certain communities special and in ours, you’re guaranteed to find neighbors with the Southern hospitality that makes our state so well-loved.

  5. The history.
If you love history, you will love living in the Commonwealth of Virginia. For starters, we were chartered as the first North American English colony in 1606. Northern Virginia, in particular, was a major battlefield of the Civil War. Today you can find placards marking significant sites all over the region, as well as many museums, historical houses and estates, monuments, battlefields, and historic parks. There are many smaller towns throughout Northern Virginia that feature historic downtown areas with their own local histories and sites to tour, so you’ll never run out of interesting local tidbits to learn.

  6. Excellence in health care.
With a significant retirement population already enjoying life, those concerned about top-notch health care can rest assured that our area has them covered with medical centers that use some of the best technology and treatments available.

  7. Employment opportunities.
Page County’s top employers include: Page County School Board, Masonite Corp, County of Page, Valley Health System, Walmart, Emco Enterprises, DNC P&R at Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns, and U.S. National Park Service.

Commutes to opportunities outside the county usually aren’t longer than trying to make it through 2 miles of city traffic. The reward for your out-bound drive is you get to LIVE here! You get to come home to a place that truly feels like home.

  8. The weather forecast.
You’ll spend less time shoveling snow and more time out enjoying the sunshine and mild climate while living in Page County. Our high temperatures average in the 80s and our low temperatures average in the 30s.

  9. Home prices that don’t break the bank + Low taxes + Low cost of living = more fun.
Whether you’re investing in a second home or looking to make the Page County area your permanent residence, our real estate market offers affordable prices and a wide array of fantastic amenities. And bonus, recent research of the area’s real estate market shows an increasing number of properties sold and increasing prices—which is good news for any investor! Life is more enjoyable when you can afford it, and our low taxes mean more money in your pockets.

  10. Community matters.
Finally, the Page County area has plenty of opportunities to get you involved. There’s nothing more rewarding than spending time giving back to your community, and here you can do it all while meeting interesting people. Religious organizations, arts groups, professional associations, community service groups and medical facilities are always in need of volunteers while they supply valuable support and assistance to the community, we call home.

With a beautiful historic downtown, a strong local business community, and friendly locals, Luray is a place for people who like people. STANLEY

Some say that Stanley is the town that time forgot. The community in Stanley is one of rich history and pride, with most of the locals having roots going back generations. Strolling down Main Street, watching the sun rise and set behind the Blue Ridge Mountains, and plenty of chances to help better and enjoy the community, Stanley offers a change in pace from a big city. After just a few days of living here, you’ll wonder why you didn’t move to Stanley sooner.

SHENANDOAH

It may not be the biggest town you’ve ever seen, but Shenandoah has as much charm and opportunity as the city. Everywhere you look, you’re not only close to the river, but shops and restaurants, as well. With residents and businesses that truly want the best for each other, and a chance to really become part of the community, there’s nowhere more welcoming than Shenandoah. The charm and beauty of this quaint little town is unrivaled and makes it the perfect place for anyone to make a brand-new start.

Business Networking Breakfast - Meet Your Elected Officials

A different type and style of a networking event than Business After Hours, this event is held at the beginning of every year. It is a chance for members of our community to meet and hear from the officials that they have just voted in. This is the perfect chance to meet your officials, hear their plans for their terms, and network with other members of the business community.

Contact the Chamber at events@luraypage.com or (540) 743-3915 to sign-up or for additional information. These events are Dutch-treat, so come for coffee, breakfast, or just the conversation; we ask that you RSVP a week before the event to ensure adequate seating.

Business After Hours

Each month, the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce, is excited to host Business After Hours. This monthly networking event is free and open to all members of the Chamber and their employees.

Our monthly Business After Hours is the perfect chance to unwind and expand your network at our casual after-hours event on the third Thursday of each month. Enjoy refreshments while connecting with local business owners and professionals in a relaxed setting. Everyone who attends will also get a chance to win door-prizes provided by the host. With a new host (and sometimes co-host) each month, you’ll also get to explore and discover different businesses throughout Luray-Page County.

If you are interested in hosting or co-hosting one of next year’s monthly Business After Hours, contact Clancey at clancey.arnold@luraypage.com. Spots fill up quickly, so make sure you let Clancey know as soon as possible that you are interested in hosting.

I was born and raised in Page County, Virginia. I graduated Mt. Carmel Christian Academy. I attended Eastern Mennonite University where I played for the Lady Royals Basketball team. My junior year we won the ODACS Title and went to the sweet sixteen in Wisconsin. I graduated College in 2005 with a BS Degree, my concentration was in Business Administration, Marketing, and Coaching. We also have 3 dogs and a cat: Yorkie, Cooper, 2 Great Danes, Darby & Mae, and a cat, Duke. When I am not at work, I am spending my time at the softball or baseball field watching my 2 youngest kids play ball or at the gym watching them play basketball or hanging out by our pool or boating on the lake. I love hosting the family over for a cookout and sitting around the fire. I am the general manager of our family rental cabin, Helms Mountain Hideaway. I own and manage a wedding business, Elegant Occasions.

As President of the Luray-Page County Chamber, I plan, organize, lead, and control the organization. Activities include financial planning and monitoring, program planning and monitoring, member satisfaction and growth, volunteer and staff development and acting as the Chamber spokesman and community figurehead. I am proud to serve the business community through my position as President with the Chamber. I have had the great honor of leading the Chamber for 10 years. During this time, my beliefs have been confirmed that Page County is an incredible place to raise a family, start and grow and business, and most of all have fun! I get more passionate about Page County each year; it is a part of my heart! I feel extremely proud of what our community offers. I love meeting new people and developing relationships. Edison Emmons
Social Media and Marketing Assistant
edison.emmons@luraypage.com

I am a native of Page County. Throughout school, I was big in the music department (played the trumpet) and have continued that through the years. I love video games, photography, music, cooking, and hanging out with my friends and family. I am married to the most beautiful woman in the world, Hali, and we have a dog, Ruby, and a cat Harper. I recently started transitioning, so I’m starting a whole new journey in life, and am lucky to have my friends and family beside me.

I have been at the Chamber of Commerce for the past 4 years. I started as the Chamber & Tourism Assistant, and after a few years, became the Social Media & Marketing Assistant. I am in charge of all our social media pages, our website, communications as far as writing, graphic design, and also help with the visitors when I’m needed.

The thing I like most about working with the Chamber of Commerce is the connections I’ve made. Growing up in Page County, I know a lot of the locals, but my position has helped me not only develop business relationships but also strengthen friendships. I love getting to help and connect with our local businesses and do my part to support locals.

Clancey Arnold

I’m a native Californian that moved here a little more than 5 years ago.  I have four children and 13 grandchildren.  I have owned my own businesses over the years.  Construction is my background as well as design and decorating. I retired just before I moved to Luray, but it is for the birds!  I love living and working in Luray VA.

I have been with the Chamber for a little more than 4 years and am the Membership & Investment Administrator. I also work the front desk for the Visitor Center. Sharing information about our terrific businesses in our communities is fun and exciting.  It is fun to watch our visitors who are excited to be here, find out how much there is to do here is something I love doing.

I love meeting new people who come to our area and take a chance on opening a business here.  It is exciting to watch them grow and experience success.  It’s great to share information with them and answer their questions.  I love everything about working at the Chamber.

Ribbon Cuttings

Ribbon-cuttings are designed to help promote a business or organization that is new or celebrating a special anniversary. These businesses and organizations must be Chamber members to receive promotion from the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce. These events provide our membership with a great opportunity to meet and support these new or long-standing businesses.

We offer two types of ribbon-cuttings: Grand Opening/Re-Opening Ribbon-Cuttings (for businesses that have moved to a new location) & Anniversary Ribbon-Cuttings. For both types, the Chamber coordinates attendance with local and county government officials, provides the ribbon and big scissors, publicizes the event in our monthly and weekly newsletters, newspaper, and through an event press release when possible.

Our Anniversary Ribbon-Cuttings are for businesses celebrating 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50, and 75 years of business in Page County. These events provide another chance for outreach and publicity of our members as a thank you for their hard work and dedication to the community during their years of business.

Contact Clancey if you would like to find out more information about having a ribbon-cutting for your business and Gina for information on upcoming ribbon-cuttings at events@luraypage.com or (540) 743-3915.

Learn About the Benefits!

Reprinted with permission from the Page County Economic Development Authority (www.pageforbusiness.com

The US Small Business Administration provides Government Contract assistance to qualified small firms located in Historically Underutilized Business zones, known as HUB zones. The purpose of the assistance provided to HUB zone businesses is to increase local employment opportunities, stimulate investment, and empower communities through economic leveraging.

Page County is one of a few HUB zones in the Shenandoah Valley and is the only county-wide HUB zone in the northern portion of Virginia. By locating in Page County, qualified small businesses have access to the special advantages of the HUB zone, when seeking government contracts.

One way HUB zone entities benefit is through government contract ‘set-asides’, whereby all Federal government purchases within a certain value range are automatically set-aside for small businesses. In addition the Federal Government has a goal of awarding 3% of prime contract and sub-contract dollars to HUB zone businesses.

When competitively bidding for government contracts HUB zone businesses receive a 10% price evaluation preference. SBA guidelines state “…a contracting officer must deem the price offered by a qualified HUB Zone firm to be lower than the price offered by another … if the price offered by the qualified HUB Zone firm is not more than 10% higher than the otherwise lowest….”

The Small Business Administration (SBA) regulates and implements the HUB Zone program by determining which businesses are eligible, maintaining lists of qualified HUB Zone firms, and adjudicating disputes. Eligibility rules require that a company be a small business by SBA standards, have its principal office and at least 35% of employees in a designated HUB Zone, and be 51% US owned and controlled. Eligible firms may apply to the SBA via an online application. To learn more about the HUB Zone program visit: www.SBA.gov.

The Page County Economic Development Authority (EDA) is the entity charged with the mandate “to better the welfare of the citizens of the community; to promote the economic growth and development of Page County; and to acquire, own, lease, and dispose of properties to promote industry and develop trade by inducing manufacturing, industrial, governmental, and commercial enterprises to locate in or remain in Page County.” The EDA is comprised of persons representing all of the towns and geographic zones of Page County. It is governed by an appointed board that meets on a monthly basis. For more information on the EDA visit www.pageforbusiness.com.

Enterprise Zone

Below is the information the Page County Economic Development & Tourism puts out on the Enterprise Zone:

What is an Enterprise Zone?
The Virginia General Assembly established the Virginia Enterprise Zone program in 1982, a program intended to join the Department of Housing and Community Development with local governments in providing incentives for investment in capital improvements and new employees. Under this program, qualifying businesses can receive grants for making real property investments and for creating permanent, full-time jobs.

Are you in the Zone?
Page County's Enterprise Zone contains a total of 1,705 acres and spans through the Towns of LurayStanley, and Shenandoah. The zone includes a majority of our commercial, industrial, retail, and office spaces, as well as, various unimproved properties for future development.

What are the Advantages of Locating my Business in the Zone and How Do I Qualify?
If your business is located in the Page County Enterprise Zone, you may be eligible for various State and/or Local incentives. These incentives are primarily based on the amount of financial investment and jobs created by your business. Incentives may be combined.

For additional information contact Liz Lewis, Page County Department of Economic Development & Tourism, at (540) 743-1216.

Why Luray-Page for Business?

In Forbes magazine’s annual study of the “Best States for Business,” Virginia was number one in 2013 and has ranked among the top two during each of the last eight years. According to the magazine, the state “ranks on top of the regulatory category because of its strong incentive offerings and business-friendly government policies. Virginia has a widely diverse economy that includes local and federal government, military, farming and manufacturing.”

Additionally:

  • Virginia is a right-to-work state and consistently ranks among the best states for business by organizations such as CNBC and Entrepreneur.com

  • Virginia has the third lowest workers compensation costs among states and the second lowest unemployment insurance tax.

  • Building costs are 8 to 22 percent lower than the national average.

  • Page County has a business-friendly environment and attractive business incentives available—accelerated permitting, site purchase discounts, machinery and tool tax grant assistance for job creation, Port of Virginia Zone Grant, etc.

  • Page County offers an enviable quality of life—scenic beauty, low real estate costs, good schools and health care, and safe neighborhoods.

  • Page County is close to nationally known recreation areas such as Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns, George Washington National Forest, the Appalachian Trail, and the Shenandoah River.

  • Luray, Page County’s seat, is just 70 miles from Dulles Airport.

  • Page County is designated a HubZone by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

  • Page County has a competent and educated work force.  Two new high schools and several nearby colleges graduate ambitious, well-educated students annually.

  • County-wide Broadband

Chamber Press Releases

There’s so much going on in the Shenandoah Valley that it keeps our staff running from celebration to celebration and event to event. We’ve seen a resurgence of businesses opening in the towns of Luray and Shenandoah and we’re thrilled to see it as a mini downtown renovation. Over the past two years, we’ve celebrated countless openings and ribbon-cuttings as well as anniversary ribbon-cuttings celebrating our long-standing community businesses.

Moreover, the towns and County of Page have seen large events, such as the Luray Triathlon, the Blue Ridge Mountain Mudurance, and the Shenandoah Half Marathon, come to the area. Running their courses through the valley and around the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, these events attract not just the locals, but also draw crowds from the surrounding cities and counties.

The Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center staff attempt to keep our local media outlets and visitors in the know on the upcoming events and celebrations through our press releases. Please feel free to peruse the archived press releases below and contact the Chamber at (540) 743-3915 for any additional information.

Monthly Newsletter

Every month the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce prints and mails a newsletter detailing our upcoming events and highlighting our new members! Providing these members a basic introduction to the business community as a whole as well as to the local and state government officials is a great way to keep the community up-to-date on what is going on in each of the towns. This is especially helpful for new businesses as it provides a platform for them to communicate their business's purpose to a wider audience. Additionally, for businesses who have been around for a while, this newsletter highlights one member a month and provides a write-up of their business’s mission, products, and services.

Testimonials

“I have been a member of the Chamber since I started in the real estate business almost 30 years ago. My membership has paid for itself many times over due to the promotional and educational activities sponsored by the chamber. I also appreciate the tremendous professional marketing of Page County, which brings potential buyers of real estate into my office.”

-Bill Dudley, Bill Dudley & Associates Real Estate

“Those visitors coming to the Luray-Page Chamber of Commerce can access an in-person, vast network of talent and resources in the Luray area. Those who belong to the Chamber are the network. In either direction the Chamber is a great value right at our door, ready to assist and share.”

-Lesley Mack, Birdsong Pleasure Garden

“Prior to moving to Luray as a full time resident in 2017, I worked and resided in Pennsylvania.  I tried numerous times to get involved with the local chamber but due to my work schedule and the fact they only did morning events I could never join. When we moved here,  I knew very few people and I had a lot of time on my hands.  I heard there was an active Chamber of Commerce and sought them out.  I was excited to see that they offered events at various times of the day.  Early morning breakfasts, business after hours, lunch and learns. Events are offered to handle individuals needs and schedules.  I attended my first breakfast event and felt very welcomed not just by the chamber but by local business owners as well. Flash forward and I’m still an active member of my local chamber. Most of my friends I met through my local chamber. My businesses have grown due to my local chamber.  My networking with local businesses has vastly improved due to my local chamber.  We are very lucky to have such an organization in our area.”

-Kris A Garrett, LMT, Integrated Bodyworks

“Walking into The Luray-Page Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center, you are always greeted by friendly smiling faces. The staff provides excellent service to our visitors and members alike. I am involved with the Chamber because I believe in their mission to help and to grow the local business community. The Chamber assists visitors to our area with recommendations and itineraries to maximize their satisfaction and encourage repeat visits. I would recommend membership to any business looking to improve exposure and network their organization to visitors and other in our community.”

-Bill Huffman, Luray Caverns

“I am always impressed by how informed and current our Chamber of Commerce is. Gina and her staff are always pleasant and helpful. They are forever coming up with seminars and programs that are relevant to any business at any stage of development or tenure. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated Chamber supporting the business community’s needs.”

-Chef Arnaud, Main Street Bakery and Catering

“I feel that being a member of our local Chamber of Commerce is essential for new and old businesses alike. Becoming more connected with one's surrounding community and its business leaders are invaluable tools to grow any establishment.”

-Romeo Pugliese, Mamma Mia Italian Restaurant

“It has been a great pleasure for me to have been involved with the Luray – Page County Chamber of Commerce for over 35 years, and to have had the honor of serving as President, Treasure, and on the Board of Directors. Our County and towns are fortunate to have the Chamber we have; the friendly and courteous staff are always available to help tourist and residents. Tourism is one of the key parts of our local economy. Over the past several years the Chamber has markedly increased tourism spending while other areas of the state show declining results. Residents enjoy many special events and opportunities to meet and network with other residents and business owners. Our Chamber is one of the reasons the future looks bright for our county!”

-Jerry & Nora Dofflemyer, Pass Mountain Rentals

“Everyone at the Chamber has been very nice and helpful. Especially since I am new to the area and to the Page New and Courier paper. The Christmas Chamber event was an event that I went to promote the paper, and the event was very well organized, all the activities for the kids, vendors and of course the Santa display was the best. The Chamber does a lot for the small businesses in the towns of Page County. I know it will be helpful being part of the Chamber and promoting the paper.”

-Amy Stormer, Page News and Courier

“As a new resident of Page County, I joined the Chamber two years ago as an Individual Member. The connections I made were invaluable, and assisted greatly in my becoming acquainted with the community and its people. Today, as the Managing Editor for the Page News and Courier, those connections are even more important. The Chamber events and publicity, provide ongoing opportunities for new connections with local and regional businesses as well as community leaders, as we work to grow our important community newspaper. Thank you to the entire staff of the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce for the hard work you do to progress our community and its people.”

-Ray Snader, Managing Editor, Page News and Courier

“The Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce serves local businesses in so many different ways, it's hard for most members to take full advantage of all they offer…Page Valley News has utilized the Chamber's monthly newsletter to distribute information about advertising opportunities, appeared as a guest on a weekly radio show the Chamber hosts in partnership withThe River (95.3 FM) to expose our site to new readers in the region, was featured in the monthly newsletter as a new Chamber member, attended a workshop about using social media and starting a podcast, and enjoyed networking opportunities from Business After Hours to the annual banquet. The Chamber supports and promotes local businesses from their grand opening ribbon cuttings at retail outlets to helping fill empty bookings at local cabins and B&Bs — and Page Valley News, as a Chamber member, has benefited greatly from this partnership.”

-Randy Arrington, Editor, Page Valley News

“The mission of the SV SBDC is to serve the needs of the small business community. In doing so, we know that our best work is never achieved alone. We count ourselves fortunate to have an excellent partner in the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce. Gina Hilliard and her staff are focused on growth and success for this business community. Whether we are working with a new or long-established company, we know that we can recommend the immediate and proactive assistance that only a dedicated Chamber can provide. We also know that the businesses of Page County and its towns are grateful for this important resource. In addition, we have been so pleased at the Chamber’s support of SBDC workshops and other events. They host our speakers and collaborate with us to find the best options for the businesses we both serve. In turn, we’re happy to support their successes in outreach and on special occasions such as Small Business Saturday. We could not ask for a better partner, and Page County businesses could not wish for a better advocate and champion.”

-Shenandoah Valley Small Business Development Center

“The Chamber of Commerce contacted us as soon as we settled into town and invited us to become members of the Chamber. We are so glad they reached out to us. Through the Chamber, we have made many business connections, realized true growth for the business community, and made lasting friendships in our new hometown. They are always bringing local businesses together and we are so glad we became a part of this organization. The staff is irreplaceable; they are always friendly, helpful, and supportive. The Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce shows us that our business and every business in their organization matters.”

-Shannon & Joe Socolosky, South Court Inn Bed and Breakfast

“We are fortunate to have a growing, productive Chamber and staff that have aided us in our 52 years of tourism business. By informing tourists at the Welcome center and thru the internet, having effective ad campaigns, great relations with Richmond and Virginia Tourism along with other Chambers & Tourism centers has aided in growing our business and so many others. The lodging tax increase from $75,000 in the early 90’s to over $4 million now shows how tourism lodging has grown in Page County with the aid of the Luray Page County Chamber of Commerce.”

From white water rapids, kayaks, rafts, tubes, fishing, jet skis, fishing and just relaxing. Luray and Page County has many things to do on the Shenandoah River.

Shenandoah River

The South Fork of the Shenandoah River flows for 55 miles through Page Valley, winding its way between the Massanutten Mountain on the West and the Blue Ridge Mountains on the East. Offering stunning mountain views as you go along the river, the South Fork flows north to join the North Fork in Front Royal and becoming the main stem of the Shenandoah River. Continuing North, this flows on to Harper's Ferry, West Virginia where it joins the Potomac River all the way to the Chesapeake Bay. The Shenandoah River is one of the few rivers in the world that flows north for its entire length and that alone brings some outdoor enthusiasts to its banks.

Oh Shenandoah,

I long to hear you,

Far away, you rolling river.

Oh Shenandoah,

Just to be near you,

Far away, far away.

The South Fork of the Shenandoah River offers quiet areas, sections with riffles and a few white water rapids along the way giving enjoyable river time for canoes, kayaks, rafts, and tubes. Behind two dam areas, visitors to the river can use power boats and jet skis. Moreover, some of the best small mouth bass fishing is here too! So, grab your pole, equipment, and some sunscreen and get to relaxing on the river. Or, call one of our outfitters to help you set it all up during your next stay in Luray-Page.

While you are here, check out the Shenandoah National Park and Luray Caverns

Shenandoah National Park has many things to do and different activities and runs right through Luray and Page County.

Shenandoah National Park

Hike, bike, or cruise the Skyline Drive and take in the historic natural beauty from its numerous overlooks in Shenandoah National Park.

“The mountains are calling and I must go…” – John Muir

Locals and visitors have felt that same pull for many, many years. There is something truly beautiful and settling about escaping to the mountains, something that can calm and restore a tired soul and fan the flame of exploration.

Over the years, people have been flocking to the Shenandoah National Park for respite from the everyday. Whether it be through a hike in the woods to take time away from the city and the crush and rush of routine and traffic or through a drive from gateway to gateway with stops at overlooks to enjoy the dotting of the houses in the valley and a respite at one of the restaurants for their seasonal blackberry cobbler. Encounter the wilderness and allow yourself to lose cell phone reception and cut yourself off of the constant dings of your email and social media for the soft crunch of leaves as the chipmunks scurry to collect nuts and the birds rustle the trees as they build their nest. Spend some time mingling and swapping stories with the other visitors as you listen to live music in one of the taprooms or peruse the works of local artisans in the gift shops along the Skyline Drive. Once you're done with all of that, get off the road and off foot and see the mountains on horseback. Each day provides new views, experiences, and natural beauty along the Blue Ridge Mountains and the stunning Shenandoah National Park.

Only 75 miles from Washington, DC and the Northern Virginia metro area, the park consists of over 500 miles of trails for hikers of every experience level from beginner all the way up to the ambitious Appalachian Trail hiker. With 196,000 acres of protected wilderness filled with deer, bears, and a variety of birds, the Skyline Drive – a National Scenic Byway – provides a stunning view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah Valley, and beyond. Come stargaze away from the lights of the city or immerse yourself in the history of the mountains where the settlers called it home before 1935. Any way you choose, a visit or stay at Shenandoah National Park will be a one-of-a-kind experience.

Come visit Luray Caverns in Luray and Page county.

Luray Caverns

Luray Caverns is the most popular caverns in Eastern America, located in Luray Va right outside of the Shenandoah National Park, in the Shenandoah valley. Millions of visitors have toured the limestone halls over the years since it was first discovered on August 13, 1878. Guided tours along paved, well-lit walkways leave every 15 minutes to ensure visitors aren't waiting too long. These one hour tours wind among the beauty of the underground. Cathedral ceilings stretching 10-stories high, magnificent limestone structures and columns, a one-of-a-kind optical illusion at dream lake, and the great stalacpipe organ await anyone looking for a new kind of adventure.

Admission also includes passes to the Luray Valley Museum, Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, and Toy Town Junction. Have kids with a little extra energy to burn or want to spend some time bonding? Get lost and found in the Garden Maze or let your kids strike out on their own at the Rope Adventure Park. Let the kids make a memory sifting for gold at the Luray Valley Museum, allow the photographers on staff memorialize the moment with a family photo, or pick out a toy, shirt, or other trinket in the gift shop. Make your visit as long or as short as you want and stay for an hour, a few, or spend the whole day having fun exploring and learning as a family. No matter what, there’s something for everyone at the Luray Caverns, so get ready to explore! Need a quick bite to eat, but not ready to leave just yet? Enjoy a simple lunch or snack at the on-site cafe.

Live in Luray-Page

Agri-Tourism

Agri-Tourism, or agritourism, refers to farm stays, fresh produce at farm stands, and the businesses and organizations associated with our local farmers. From pick-your-own farms to fresh cut or cut your own Christmas trees, farm stands, the local farmers market, and our local beef farmers, all of these businesses contribute their hard work and love of the land to the area.

With the rise of farm-to-fork, farm-to-table, and crop-to-cup trends, people around the country and world are beginning to realize and appreciate the idea of personally knowing their farmer(s) and where their food comes from. Non-GMO and pesticide-free movements have highlighted the fact that many Americans don't know their food’s origins or what is in/on it, let alone the conditions that it was raised in.

Agri-tourism is for people who appreciate freshness and the wholesomeness of food fresh from the farm. After all, everything always tastes better sun-ripened and fresh off the vine. Visit Luray-Page to enjoy our sweet potatoes, zucchini, lettuce greens, tomatoes, berries, corn, sirloin cuts, and more. Come visit the many attractions that Page County has to offer!

Attractions & Caverns

Coming to Page County, most people want to visit one of the many caverns that are in or around us.  Visiting any of our caverns will bring out the kid inside, encouraging your imagination to run wild.  But if you want to do more than just explore the caverns, the Shenandoah Valley has a lot to offer.  There are attractions that can speak to everyone’s hearts and make everyone in your group pine for another visit to our beautiful valley.

The Shenandoah Valley lays claim to numerous caverns, each with different features than the one before it. Luray Caverns and Shenandoah Caverns are both known for the limestone rock that permeates the soil in western Virginia, this rock is susceptible to water carving paths and caves into it over the course of thousands of years. If you've ever wanted to know what you’re walking on; what wonders reside below the ground’s surface; what treasures nature has hidden below our roadways, walking paths, and local buildings, you have to make at least one of Shenandoah Valley's numerous caverns a destination during your next visit!

However, if you’re looking for other adventures to take while you’re visiting, why not explore our many attractions.  Whether you want to do something outdoors, like visiting Jordan Hollow Stables for horseback riding, explore our unique indoor activities such as Escape 211, or check out some of our distilleries and vineyards like Castle Vineyards, Wisteria Farm and Vineyards, River Hill Wine and Spirits or Copper Fox Distillery, there is something for everyone to do while you’re here!

Roughin’ or Relaxin’

It was John Muir who said, “Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity.”

You get exactly what Muir was talking about. For you, wildness is a necessity. You don’t want to just get away. You want to get far away — from people, cars, shopping malls. Your partner wants to get away, too, but not so far away that he can’t find a good restaurant with Southern-style beef Wellington or a brew house where he can refill his growler.

Luckily, Luray and Page County can deliver the best of both worlds. Tucked neatly between the Massanutten and Blue Ridge Mountain ranges, Luray is the perfect starting point for any adventure:

From Wilderness

In 1976, Congress designated 79,579 acres of Shenandoah National Park as wilderness — that’s 125 square miles in which to find extreme solitude or extreme adventure. Many park trails are in designated wilderness and put you in the perfect position to see wildlife, wildflowers and the human history that has unfolded here for millennia. For overnight camping in Shenandoah’s wilderness, plan ahead and prepare by researching Shenandoah’s backcountry camping information and regulations. And don’t forget to check out the Cabin Capital of Virginia for access to 400-500 cabins and 7 campgrounds in and around Luray and Page County.

To Civilization

If you’re looking for something a little less remote, Luray and Page County has you covered as well. We offer the perfect blend of small-town charm and pastoral vistas that keep you close to nature without getting too far away from the local artists, musicians, and friendly people who populate our unique shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions. Our local lodging options include several hotels and motels, charming bed and breakfasts, and an elegantly restored historic inn.

And Everything in Between.

With so many venues and vacation spots, both wild and not-so-wild, Luray and Page County can accommodate any need, whether you’re looking to rough it for a few days or relax in a world of exquisite beauty. Either way, you’ll have plenty of options and reasons to come back year after year.

Visit Luray and Page County for a nearby escape

A Nearby Escape

Think you need to travel to an exotic, faraway location to get away from it all? Think again. Luray and Page County is the perfect place to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind and it’s right in the backyard of the greater Northern Virginia/Nation’s Capital area. We’re just two hours from both D.C. and Richmond, three hours from Maryland, Hampton Roads, and Virginia Beach, and 5 hours from nearby mid-Atlantic destinations, such as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Raleigh, North Carolina. Wherever you start, Luray and Page County is a quick trip back in time, where you can find clean country air, beautiful scenery, and endless opportunities to make memories with your family and friends.

Getting There is Half the Fun

As they say, life isn’t all about the destination. On your journey to Luray and Page County, take a cruise along Skyline Drive and wind through 105 miles of the only public road in Shenandoah National Park. Staying in the car will be a challenge — pack a picnic and enjoy the view at any of the 75 scenic overlooks, hike one of the park’s many trails or simply revel in a natural wonderland that can, as Franklin Delano Roosevelt observed in his dedication speech, provide “the perspective that comes to men and women who every morning and every night can lift up their eyes to Mother Nature.”

To get to Luray from Skyline Drive, exit onto Route 211 at the Thornton Gap Entrance Station. From there, you’ll be just minutes from the town — and from your next home away from home. Whether you’re looking for a thrill-filled getaway, a place steeped in American (and natural) history, or a comfy cove to lose yourself in a good book, Luray-Page has it all. And it’s closer than you think, which makes it easy to plan for a weekend escape or a weeklong excursion.

Four-Season Fun

Rain or shine, sun or snow—no matter what falls from the sky, your plans won’t fall through when you visit Luray and Page County. According to Sperling’s Best Places, there are 190 sunny days per year in Page County, so there are plenty of opportunities to get out and explore the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, Shenandoah River, and more. And for the days that are not-so-sunny, escape to our world-famous Luray and Shenandoah Caverns, catch a movie, grab a bite, or go on a shopping spree downtown.

Spring

Come explore Luray and Page County in full bloom. Starting in late March, head down Skyline Drive to watch as wildflowers pepper the forest floor or take a two-mile stroll down Luray’s Hawksbill Greenway as the landscape reawakens from winter. Hop on horseback to take a trail ride through fresh meadows, woods, and streams or visit the Luray Zoo, which rescues animals from all around the globe. Looking for more excitement? Kings Dominion, the biggest amusement park in Virginia, is only two hours away and has over 60 rides and attractions for those who dare to take the plunge. Want discounted tickets? Stop by the Visitors Center during the season and grab a day pass for you and the whole family.

Summer

Heat up your summer adventure with a kayaking, canoeing, or tubing trip down the Shenandoah River. Fun for the whole family, you can stop at your own private fishing oasis, have a cookout, or set up camp for the night. If you prefer to stay on solid ground, pick-your-own blackberries and red raspberries at one of our farms or spend the day museum hopping, soaking in our rich history. Clench your thirst at one of our great vineyards with a wine tasting or head to River Hill Distillery and try some of their country wines, Aged Bourbon Whiskey, and 100% Corn Whiskey. If neither of those suits you, check out Luray’s new brewery, Hawksbill Brewing Company, before you venture on to the downtown shops and restaurants. In search of some heat relief? Venture underground to the Luray Caverns, where it stays 54° year-round and uncover the whimsical world just beneath your feet.

Fall

As the weather becomes cool and crisp, take a trip down Skyline Drive and watch as the trees transform from vibrant greenery into a rustic rainbow. From mid- to late-October, the Drive and the hiking trails in the Shenandoah National Park become the perfect place to take in nature in all of its resplendent glory. Fall is also peak apple season—there are three U-pick orchards within an hour of Luray that are ripe and ready for your picking. Or, if apples aren’t your thing, visit one of our local farms or markets for fresh produce, including pumpkins, corn, tomatoes, and more. It's also the perfect time to pick up some fresh beef for your freezer as you prepare for the coming winter.

Winter

Escape the cold in the Cabin Capital of Virginia. Whether you’re looking to cozy up by the fireplace with a good book or take a not-so-polar plunge in a hot tub, Luray-Page estimates there are 400-500 cabins in the county available to rent with amenities for every season. If cabin fever sets in, take a 30-minute drive from Luray and Page County to Massanutten Resort and shred some powder on 14 trails of varying difficulties and activities, including skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing.
