Drink local.
With the rise of the craft beer trend in Virginia, hundreds of breweries and brewpubs have opened to provide their little section of the world with a local brew. Luray’s very own brewery has been in the works for a few years and had its grand opening in the Spring of 2017. Feeding into the crop-to-cup culture, they grow their own hops right in Luray.
Not a beer person? How about some local wine? Castle Vineyards and Wisteria Farm and Vineyard offer a wide selection from Chardonnay to Merlot and blends to dessert wine. More than just tastings, both have stunning countryside views for their guests to enjoy and welcome large groups, including bachelor and bachelorette parties. Don't forget to visit The Valley Cork, as well. At Luray's own Wine Bar, you can grab a bite to eat and try wines from around the world.
If you’re into sweeter wines, check out the local River Hill Distillery. Their country wines are developed from the fruit they grow on-site and in their orchard to make blackberry, strawberry, mixed berry, peach, and apple wines. Plus, while you’re there, check their aged bourbon and corn whiskies. While a lot of the history of the area is steeped in whiskey-making in the mountains, typically as moonshining, the distillery’s products are 100% legal and licensed with sales in Virginia ABC stores. Want to see a larger distillery up close, cross the mountain for Copper Fox's applewood aged Single Malt and Rye Whisky, as well as their one-of-a-kind Vir Gin.
